OSOGBO — Less than 24 hours before the Accord Party (AP) governorship primary in Osun State, Governor Ademola Adeleke has officially declared that he has joined the party to seek re-election in 2026.
Adeleke had resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on December 1, ending months of speculation about his political direction. His spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, confirmed in a statement yesterday that the governor has now settled with the Accord Party as his new platform.
The formal announcement took place at the Government House Banquet Hall in Osogbo, in the presence of national and state leaders of the Accord Party.
“I Joined Accord Party on November 6” — Adeleke
Speaking during the event, Governor Adeleke revealed that his move to Accord Party was not sudden, explaining that he had completed internal consultations weeks earlier.
He said:
“I joined the Accord Party more than a month ago, precisely November 6, as a platform to seek re-election in 2026. This was after weeks of consultation and deliberations with stakeholders and opinion leaders.”
According to him, Accord’s ideology aligns with his administration’s emphasis on welfare-driven governance.
“We opted for the Accord Party because its mission of welfarism aligns with our passionate focus on citizens’ and workers’ welfare.”
Adeleke welcomed his new party leaders to Government House, declaring full loyalty and partnership.
“You are now part of us as I am now part of you. We are united in progress and good intentions for the people of Osun State and Nigeria.”
A Call for Unity Ahead of 2026
The governor urged party members to maintain a united front as Osun approaches another election year.
“Our task is to sustain a united front as we prepare for the elections. We have a duty to ensure inclusive leadership where the interests of all groups are cared for.”
He added that Accord Party is now “the new platform for victory” across Osun West, Osun East, and Osun Central.
Adeleke expressed confidence that Osun residents, who voted for him in 2022, would support continuity in 2026.
“Osun voted for good governance in 2022 and they will support continuity in 2026. The mass of our people are for continuity, and Accord is our party for victory next year.”
“Osun Has Never Had It This Good” — Governor
Highlighting his achievements, Adeleke stated that his administration has consistently prioritized the welfare of workers and citizens.
“From infrastructure to social services, Osun has never had it so good in governance and service delivery.”
He emphasized that the Accord Party’s people-focused philosophy aligns with his administration’s progress so far.
