Michelle Obama Says America Isn’t Ready for a Female President

Former First Lady Michelle Obama recently stated that America is not ready for a woman in the Oval Office, suggesting that many men nationwide are reluctant to be led by a female president. Speaking at the Brooklyn Academy of Music while promoting her new book, The Look, Obama made the comments during a conversation with actress Tracee Ellis Ross.

Reflecting on the 2024 election, where she supported Vice President Kamala Harris against President Trump, Obama said, “Sadly, we ain’t ready. That’s why I’m like, don’t even look at me about running… you are not ready for a woman.” She emphasized that persistent speculation about her own potential candidacy is unfounded, as she has no desire to run for office.

Obama also highlighted that societal attitudes remain a barrier: “There’s still, sadly, a lot of men who do not feel like they can be led by a woman,” urging continued progress and reflection on gender equality in leadership.
